Time to Explore offers guided walks around the town of Berwick-upon-Tweed and its unique circuit of Elizabethan Walls.
The Town Walls & Hidden Berwick Tours start at 11.00am, Monday to Friday, April to October and last approximately two hours.
Discover 700 years of Berwick's turbulent history round the town’s unique Elizabethan fortifications with superb views along the valley of the River Tweed and Northumberland's heritage coast.
The route along part of the Elizabethan ramparts s easy to walk, is traffic-free and accessible to all, including wheelchair users. We welcome children of all ages and the tour is suitable for families with push-chairs and for people wishing to bring dogs on leads.
PLEASE NOTE - Tours may occasionally be cancelled to accommodate group bookings. To check if a particular tour is running, please telephone us on 07960 062005, at least one hour in advance.
The Hidden Berwick part of the tour includes entry to two buildngs that are not usually open to the public - the 18th century gunpowder magazine (courtesy of English Heritage) and an ice-house built in the 1780s for the salmon trade (courtesy of Berwick Preservation Trust). Unfortunately, we are currently not able to access these buildings due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Tours start outside the Public Library/Berwick Tourist Information Centre in Walkergate, There is no need to pre-book unless your party is a large one.
The charge for the Town and Walls or Hidden Berwick Tour is £7.00. Accompanied children are FREE of charge.
