Over the Late Spring Bank Holiday weekend, Ford and Etal Estates hosted a variety of activities celebrating the art and crafts of the Anglo-Saxon period.
There were demonstrations of crafts and skills including pottery, spinning and weaving, basket-making and textile dyeing, as well as archery and combat displays presented by the Saint Cuthbert’s Land re-enactment group.
Families were able to have hands-on experience of grinding corn using a quern-stone at Heatherslaw Mill and manuscript-making in the splendid surroundings of the Lady Waterford Hall in Ford.
The Festival programme also included story-telling and music and songs of the time.
